MELSA Bribie had its beginnings with a meeting of enthusiasts in December, 1981. Over the period of the next three years a lease was obtained on the park which is now MELSA park and a basic track plan was submitted to the then Caboolture Shire Council for approval.
Some of the construction photos are seen here and in the Gallery. The original track-plans submitted were limited to the general area around the public picnic area and then extended to run across the bridge and through the tunnel.
Opening day was Sunday 21st of April, 1985. (see photo) Notice that there were no fences and the locos are running clockwise
Over the years, the running direction has been changed to anti-clockwise and the track has been extended to its present state with a full circuit length (as used on public days) of 547m. With the extra tracks available, we have over a kilometre of track available.
Membership has varied over the years but there is always room for more active members.
